LaTeX macro delivers (?) before equation on wiki page. Why is (?) appearing on wiki page?

LaTeX macro returns the equation on the wiki page but somehow there is a (?) that shows before the equation.  Edit mode does not show the (?).  Possible Confluence update changed something?
