List of Glossar entries for automated document export

Christina Jetzschmann March 3, 2025

Hi.

I want to create a confluence page on which all glossar entries (used in the pages below) are listed in table format.

For the document export in Word I need to add all used abbreviations and glossary entries to the document. It would make sense to make this either an own confluence page with a glossar table, or with an Word macro which extracts the glossary entries into the Word template.

The workaround with exporting glossary items to excel and than import again is awkward and not efficient with respect to automated document generation.

Do you have any advice for me how to do so?

@Christina Jetzschmann how are you creating your glossary?  Do you have an app that you purchased from the Atlassian Marketplace?

The Glossary Macro is used.

The Glossary macro is not delivered and would have been purchased.  Do you know which one you purchased?

The one used here: Creating your First Glossary | Glossary for Confluence Cloud - YouTube

Is there a better way to find out which one it is?

Hello Christina

My name is Melek and I'm Vectors' CPO. We are the vendor behind Glossary for Confluence App.

Based on your last comment and the youtube link, it seems that you're using our Glossary App (Happy to see that :)

Now concerning your questions: You want to indicate the list of terms used in a page and defined in our Glossary purely for the export purpose? Does the highlight terms in page not working for you if you want to check what are the terms used in page?

Concerning the export, we have worked on a specific feature that exports directly all terms used in page and its children into a Excel file (some of our users are attaching that file to the final export either word or PDF) But it seems that does not solve your problem.

For now the only way to list content into word export is to add it to page, as for word export, it can be a bit tricky to render macros (still feasible)

If you have installed an App handling excel files displaying in Confluence pages; one workaround would be to inject the exported file containing the terms in page. This will list the terms used in page as table and it's supported in export as you can see below:

Excel for confluence.png

Here for example I used Excel for Confluence App from Appfire. But if you have an other one that should work too!

We remain available anytime to provide any additional information. Please do not hesitate to contact us on our support portal support.covectors.io this way we can work together on assist you better and if needed fix any problem related to the app.

Many thanks

Hello Melek,

thanks for the answer. You are right, this is not solving my proplem. In order to simplify the automated document generation for projects (following the still document centric customers) we need to have a glossary or list of abbreviations in all documents. So I hoped that you have a command for scroll export or something like that to export them automatically. Or a simple way to access the table columns of your excel report with the ability to modify the table format.

If this is not existing, I thank you for your answer.

Hello Christina

Thanks for your quick reply!

For now, the options we have do not render in exported documents as table automatically.

I've contacted K15t support team to check if there are options to automatically handle excel file data into an exported word document and display it's content or link to it. Still this sill requires having to inject the excel file into the page. Waiting for their response to check for the possibilities we have.

Also discussed the case with our technical responsible, and we can also think about a dedicated macro (that we can develop and push to production) where you set your query (what terms to list: existing in current page, specific glossary etc..) and this macro will list simply those terms as table in page. We just need to work on the rendering mode to be handling when exporting page as word or PDF (Atlassian has a specific support for those forms that must be handled by vendors)

@Christina Jetzschmann I would highly recommend contacting us on our support system or emailing us on support@covectors.io this will automatically open a ticket. At least this way we can discuss your exact need and this will help us in developing the feature quickly and push it as faster as possible to the marketplace.

We remain at your disposal anytime to help you using our App :)

Thanks
