My confluence server license is expired in 2014 and the version is 4.3.7. Now I would like to migrate it to the higher version may be higher than the version 6.0.

Atlassian team says that I need to renew the license to upgrade it starting from where it got expired. That will cost us so much money.
Could you tell me any alternate way, please?

Thank you all for the answers.

I found the page - https://confluence.atlassian.com/conf716/restoring-a-space-1108683066.html

Where there is a workaround to upgrade to latest version using a temporary installed confluence.

Can you anybody knows that do I still need license to install a confluence on temporary server?

Hi @NIRANJAN PUNJA ,

As per the mentioned documents also fine but i would like to inform you instead of to play with the prod data, it will better you get the suggestion by the mentioned documents. This is related to operational work and you have to make sure you are going on the right way.

Hello @Sanjen Bariki
Thanks for the answer and suggestion. I would first try this on non-prod by installing the confluence temporarily and test if everything works fine.

Hi @NIRANJAN PUNJA to upgrade you must renew.  Don't look at the cost so much for that but the amount of savings you've enjoyed for the past 10 years.  Jira has changed very much since version 4.  The upgrade path will be difficult.  Version 6 they changed the database this is probably why you have to get to there first.

Hi @NIRANJAN PUNJA ,

Welcome to Atlassian community!

I would like to say to renew the license, If it is prod then it will very tricky to upgrade from old version to latest and There will be some error in upgrade or failed then atlassian team will help you. Without valid license atlassian team will not support. So If necessary then go with the atlassian suggestion and create a support ticket for the for information.

Sanjen

Hi @NIRANJAN PUNJA welcome to the community.  Are you planning on migrating to the cloud? I could be wrong, but if you pay for the cloud license, then I think you can upgrade on your own to a version where the migration tool is supported and migrate your data to the cloud.

That's probably a good option to consider with Support for Server products ending Feb 2024.
