The user wants everything in his Confluence site restricted to his team EXCEPT one page. If I set restrictions on the home page, it restricts all parent pages and the rights get inherited, correct? I can go restrict individual root parent pages (except this one page), but then his home page is unrestricted, correct? How do others handle this?
Well sometimes user want something that is not easily done (or even a good idea), but having said that. What you can do is to enable the space for all users to see BUT then pick one of two strategies:
I hadn't realized I could have a home page (the main page that doesn't seem to appear on the sidebar page tree) AND other root pages. That should work. Thanks.

This might be oversimplifying, but could you put that page in a separate space? That would make it easier to manage permissions separately.

Yeah, that would work...but they want it on their space and I'd hate to create the precedent for people to have spaces for just one page. /;-]

Hi Nancy,
When you reference "site" do you mean the user's Personal Space?
You are correct that the view restrictions are inherited from the parent pages down. You could certainly do what you propose, and then inform the user to not put anything on his home page of importance. That's usually what I do.
Best,
Carolyn

No, it is a network TEAM site with lots of pages users shouldn't see, but apparently one page of instructions they SHOULD see. So I can't restrict the whole site because as far as I know, there is no way to override a restriction.

Ok, do you have Cloud or Server?
I've overcome this limitation through an app called "Share It" by Comala (only for Server though): https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1212189/comala-share-it?hosting=server&tab=overview
There's a Jira issue for voting/watching this functionality: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-32999
