Oops, you've made a malformed request.

Jason North January 14, 2020

Suddenly I get this error when I try to login to Confluence Cloud from my Chrome browser, which is on the latest most stable up to date version.

I've tried clearing cache and cookies, rebooting, restarting chrome, and nothing works.

The support article says contact support, but they don't seem to offer that for FREE TRIALS... so why would I buy this product, if I can't login to it??

The only work around I've found is using Safari browser, but I don't find that acceptable.

Anyone have any suggestions?  I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi @Jason North

Have you checked this post: https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloudkb/oops-you-ve-made-a-malformed-request-when-resetting-atlassian-account-password-900816987.html

It mentions some troubleshooting tasks.

Have you tried in Incognito on Chrome?

Hi Mike, yes appreciate that... but I've read this entire post multiple times, tried everything, and it doesn't solve the problem at all.  This is why I'm trying to figure out where to go for support? Are we really on our own here to support each other in the community... with no avenue to file a support ticket or get this resolved?  I can't justify purchasing a product that doesn't work.  Uggghh....

BTW: Yes, it works in Incognito in Chrome... but I'm looking for it to work like every other cloud app... NOT only in incognito.  So strange this is even a problem.

Hi @Jason North

So it works incognito... that is interesting.

What about:

  1. Assuming you have updated Chrome to the latest version. I am running Version 79.0.3945.117 (Official Build) (64-bit) and Confluence is working.
  2. Try disabling all Chrome Extensions if you have them and then seeing if it works.
  3. Try disabling all Chrome Extensions, turning them on one by one and seeing if it works.
  4. Log out of Confluence completely, uninstall Chrome and re-install Chrome, ensuring you get the latest version, then log back into Confluence.
  5. Log out of everything (Chrome and Confluence) then Log into Chrome first with your Gmail account, then log into Confluence with the same Gmail Account. If you don't have this set up, try it anyway.
  6. If all else fails log a support ticket with Atlassian and ask them to flush out the Cache for your instance. (your company instance) and then repeat steps above.

It is a frustrating problem, but I am willing to bet it has something to do with step 6.

Good luck.

Yeah, uninstalling some Chrome extensions helped.

In my case, the "Safe Torrent Scanner extension" caused the issue. I simply removed it. It also caused issues on other websites.

Yeah, same with me.

Removing the "Safe Torrent Scanner extension" fixed the issue.
