Hi,

I am experiencing an issue with Confluence regarding page permissions. I have one parent page with many child pages. During development, the pages are only visible to me and my team, which works fine.

However, when I publish the pages, I need to manually change the permissions for each individual child page. Is it possible for child pages to inherit the permissions from the parent page, so that I don’t have to update each one individually?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards,
Fabian

Hello @Fabian Schmidt

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

In Confluence, child pages automatically inherit view restrictions from their parent pagesHowever, edit permissions are not directly inherited. This means that anyone who can view the parent page can also view the child page, but edit permissions need to be set explicitly on the child page.

Here is the Atlassian artical for more information: https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/add-or-remove-page-restrictions/#How-inherited-restrictions-work

Thanks,

Tushar

Hey there @Fabian Schmidt ,

When you say "the pages are only visible to me and my team" does that mean your pages have View restrictions applied?

If so, this is a technical issue and you should file a Support ticket so we can investigate.

If the restrictions are for Editing only, then @Tushar Gohel 's response is spot on!

This behavior actually confuses a LOT of users and, even though it's working as designed, is often seen as a Bug.

Hope this helps!  =]

In the draft, “general access” is restricted to only me and my team.
However, once I publish the pages, everyone automatically gets editing rights.
I then have to manually restrict editing permissions on each individual page.

Hi Fabian,

That should not happen if the page being created has a restricted parent page.

Please open a Support ticket so we can investigate this.
