Pictures are changing and repeating in pages I create - how can I stop this?

I created and updated 2 pages in Confluence and added multiple pictures to illustrate some of the points. The pictures show fine when I first add them in the edit view, but as soon as I click publish some of the pictures are replaced with a duplicate of a picture from elsewhere in the page. I have gone back in to edit and corrected all the pictures and again, when I click publish they get all jumbled up again!

Are there any fixes for this error?

Sadie,

Welcome to the community.  I have never heard of this before and am wondering if it has something to do with the browsers cache.  Can you clear your cache and see if that resolves the issue.  If not can you use a different browser.  If both fail can you share what browser you are using, a screenshot of the page in edit mode with a list of steps for me to recreate the issue. (How are you adding the images)

Hi Brant, I cleared the Cache, re-added the pictures and it happened again! I'm using Google Chrome and I'm dragging and dropping most of the pictures into the article straight from an application called Skitch - perhaps this is the part it doesn't like?

I have just tried again using a photo which I had saved to my desktop first - it seems to be OK this time.

I would bet is has something to do with the application Skitch since it does not happen from the desktop.

This has started happening to me too, and I'm not using Skitch or anything. I'm just dragging my images from my downloads folder into the Confluences page (on Chrome) and all the newer images are getting replaced by whichever is the newest image I just dragged.

It appears to be because of the image's name. For example, I save an image as image.png and drag it into the page. Then I save another image with the same name (so as to avoid creating multiple files on my computer when I really only want them temporarily) and I drag that image, Confluence seems to pick it up fine in edit mode. When you publish, the second image appears as a copy of the first. If you give them different names, the issue doesn't happen.

It just started happening recently, I didn't use to have this error before.

EDIT: Somebody somewhere mentioned something similar, but a workaround seems to be pasting the image into Paint and copying it from there. The filenames that result from that method are different each time, so the idiotic Confluence page doesn't duplicate them.

I was having this same issue, after compiling a report and sending out a PDF version to our organization, images were randomly copied and replaced by other images. I edited the document and changed all the images back, published, and the same mismatch happened.

Publishing then editing and placing a new image has the same effect, previous images gets replaced by new image.

Fix: Downloading images with different names then uploading seems to work.

I was trying to push our organization to move to confluence and Atlassian products in general. Hey everyone look at how good these documents look... oh wait let me redo that and send it out again, it's a bug in confluence... why won't you sign off on my team buying the paid version?

I am encountering the sam bug under Firefox. Any fixes available? It really slows down the work considerably.

The issue is in the name of the files - when the images you add have the same name (but are different images), in confluence just one gets uploaded.

Here's the link to the solved issue regarding this same question - https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-questions/Every-time-I-upload-images-into-a-new-page-they-change-to/qaq-p/1480979?utm_source=dm&utm_medium=unpaid-social&utm_campaign=P:online*O:community*I:social_share*

@Jelena Jovanovic Thanks for sharing.  The solution as stated on the other issue is to make sure each image has a unique name.
