Problem in changing space key

FaheemUllah November 13, 2020

Hi ,

We want to change space key for a project . The procedure givenhttps://confluence.atlassian.com/confkb/how-to-copy-or-rename-a-space-in-confluence-169578.html is not working for us. Both of the solutions are not working for us .i.e. using copy plugin and xml manually clone or rename space.

Any help in this matter is highly appreciated , please let me know in case of any further details required.

Best Regards,
Faheem

You cannot change a space key, You can only change the space name. You have to create a new space with the desired key and then copy over the content of the old space to the new space.

There may be a way by hacking the database, but I would do that as a last resort.

Thanks for your reply.

It looks like creating a new space with desired key is the solution to the problem.

Do you any additional information about manipulating the database directly ?

Thanks again for your help.

Have a nice weekend.

Faheem

I don't. And given the risk of doing so, I would just opt for the brute force method -- not elegant, but it is safer and probably ends up being less time spent than spinning up a test instance, doing the research and testing of a database change. ;-)
