Readers and group of users

Tamari Janelidze July 1, 2019

Hi there!

I am using an add reader option to assign a group of users to read a page and get the confirmation that they have read it.

My question is if I later add some new users to this group, will those users get the notification or the e-mail that they are supposed to read a page as well, or they have to check manually?

Hi @Tamari Janelidze ,

Firstly, the user/group must have space permissions to access any page in a space. Confluence by default allows any user/group (of users) get a notification only when:

  • page edits are made
  • the user starts watching the page (even in this case, the user gets notified only when a page edit is made)
  • a new page is created as a child to a page with page restrictions to specific users/groups
  • you @ mention them in the page
  • you share the page with a user/group

Users do not get a notification when you:

  • add new user to the group that has access to the page
  • add a user/group to the page with view/edit permissions

Any further additions like making a user viewing the page mandatory or notifying the user when added to a page/group may want to explore additional apps or plug-ins. Sorry, I do not know of any such app at the moment.

As a workaround you can:

  • @mention the group with a short message in the page comments
  • share the page with the group to notify all the users

Hope I was able to answer your queries!

Thanks!

In case someone gets interested, I have received the answer from support and they said that the “adding by group” feature adds just the actual members of a given group. It means that no users added after the moment the group is assigned to read a page are registered as required readers.

Hi @Tamari Janelidze ,

All the users added to a page as viewers/readers get a notification on new edits to the page, irrespective of when they are added. So, the answer to your question is - Yes! :)

Thanks

Sireesha

Hello @Sireesha Dugginapeddi [Appfire] ,

Thank you for your answer.   Does that mean that even if I don't make any edits to the page, newly added users to the group get the notification that they have to read the page? Because from my understanding, once I added the predefined group of users to the page to read, the notification is sent to those members of the group that they have to read a page.  and later I add some more users to this group. will they get a notification that they have to read it?
