Is there a way that we can have legal access to confluence pages by our 3rd party subcontractor.  We have a legal agreement with our subcontractor that we own the data.  But I want to make sure that we have access to all the data just in case for some unknown circumstance that they go belly up.

What can you please advise?

I'm not a lawyer, so won't attempt to answer the legal part of your question, but technically speaking:

  • Do you own / administer the Confluence Cloud site where the content is being hosted?
  • Have you restricted their ability to administer the site, so they can't delete content permanently?

No, don't own or administer the Confluence Site.  Just pay for the 3rd party services.

Sounds like it could be as simple as being listed as an Administer on their Confluence Site and confirm that restriction to deletion are set.

That would be a good start or at least ensure your data can't easily be purged by any users after being moved to trash (delete) in a space.

You might also want to consider creating a manual backup on a periodic basis:

Note: You can run into versioning issues as time passes, which may make it difficult to import old backups.
