Template names are missing from the Create from Template macro

Ryan Sealey April 3, 2019

I've created a new template and I'm trying to add the Create from Template macro to a page in the same space, but the dropdown is empty, so I can't insert the macro.

I've done this a dozen times before, so I feel like something's wrong.

It turns out I'm experiencing two problems:

  • CONFCLOUD-65985: Create from Template macro does not display existing templates in instances with the new page drawer
  • CONFCLOUD-66067: Can't create page from template with variables on the New Drawer

They are hoping the first will be resolved some time today. The workaround for the second one is to either not use variables or not use templates at all... Unfortunately, the reason we're trying to use a template is to make it easy for our other employees to use Confluence. Not using templates isn't an option--we may as well just not use it at all, because our employees aren't going to spend time learning Confluence. It just needs to be intuitive. At this point, we're waiting on the first fix, or giving up on using Confluence for this particular project, which is only going to further decentralize us.

Hello all!

Due to a follow-up on this case, I wanted to update you all with the latest information.

 According to the bug CONFCLOUD-65985:

If you are creating a space level template (not global template), then the drop down should populate because the space key exists inside the context of space. Once you exit a space and go and edit global template, the context is lost and so is the space key. There is no way to generate a temporary space key in order to just fetch the list of template.

From what I discussed with my teammate internally, [...] is now turned into a feature request (to be able to use create template macro for global template). The workaround as of right now is to use create from template macro in a context of a space (ie space template) and not global template.

The ticket created to track the feature request is as follows:

  • CONFCLOUD-66313 User should be able to use Create from Template Macro in global template

Thank you for your attention on this!

Shannon

Hello Ryan,

Welcome to Community. Nice to meet you!

I was looking into this and I discovered you raised the same case on our support queue. As Giuliano mentioned, it appears that you have run into this bug:

  • CONFCLOUD-65985 Create from Template macro does not display existing templates in instances with the new page drawer

I see that he's working on finding a workaround for you, since the one listed in the bug isn't working for you.

Once you're able to work around the issue, please feel free to come back here and let us know. It could help other users in the future.

Regards,

Shannon

Hi Sam!

Thank you for letting me know about that.

There's no workaround at this time, but please stay subscribed to the bug I linked earlier. If we determine a workaround it will be updated there.

Take care,

Shannon

Hi Sam,

Thank you for following up! I've had a look at this, but it appears that this issue is actually separate from the template bug.

You can either raise a new question here on Community for this, or reach out to the Cloud Support Team and they can assist you with this problem!

Regards,

Shannon

@Shannon S  I am still having the same template missing from my drop down list when trying to "create from template" macro.

I've created custom templates and they're not showing up to be selected. I've put them in both Global and Custom template sections.

Any ideas?

I had to log out of my cloud account and back in. It was then displayed.

Hi @Rob Brown,

Welcome to Atlassian Community, and welcome!

I had a look at the bug (CONFCLOUD-65985) and I found this note from our team:

I'll share this on the thread so others can see it too, but thank you for following-up on this! Could you see if the same happens with a space template?

Take care,

Shannon
