There is no "create" button, am I supposed to guess?

JR_Atlassian April 10, 2020

I got tired of waiting for one of my tech people to start using Atlassian so I started a sample project a few minutes ago and already... its telling me to click buttons that don't exist.

Is this a "Known Error" for Jira and they have adopted the "Salesforce knows and doesn't care to fix bugs" philosophy or is my literal autism just not seeing this.

There is no "Create" button" there is a "Create Subtask" but are the documentation people that lazy that they can't actually follow their own instructions to see they are missing steps and people like me don't know what you know.

We follow steps exactly in code and when your documentation people "assume" you leave a gap for me to jump across that could cause a problem if I assume one thing and I'm supposed to know something else that you know but you don't actually explicitly say.

Then there is the issue that two of the pictures won't load so I don't know what that means either.

Keep in mind I am not a DevOps guru, I'm posting this here as I'm leading the effort to get our DevOps setup going rather than wait.

The other thing that is weird, is why isn't there step one, two three, etc when setting up a project, how am I supposed to learn this if there are not steps laid out?

Hi @JR_Atlassian

From this screen, the create button is the "+" on the left-hand blue navigation bar.

Can I suggest checking out the Product Guides to get started? The Getting Started with Jira guide has a step on creating issues which might be of interest!

I agree that the "+" isn't immediately obvious. Atlassian is enhancing the Cloud UI in the near future (due to be released in the near future) - see this blog for more information on the new UI, where the create button will be labelled.

Thanks, Stephen, I've been going through the tutorials most of the night to try and wire this into habits.

No worries :)

It will take a little practice - whilst Jira is quite simple, any new platform can take some getting used to especially if you're used to another tool or way of working.

If you get stuck at all please feel free to reach out on this Community - we're always happy to help and ensure you have a great experience as you begin to use Atlassian products.

Hi @JR_Atlassian

Welcome to the Community :)

This is in the Confluence area of Community but as this is a Jira screen, I've assumed this is a Jira question. Let me know if this is not the case!

For creating an issue, there should be a navigation bar either above or to the left-hand side of the main issue view screen.

As it's not on this screenshot, I envisage you're viewing the issue from the pop-up screen on a board - if you click the "x" next to actions you'll see the navigation bar again.

If you are on a board and in the new issue view, you'll also find "Create Issue" in each column.

------------

In regards to the images, this looks like a known bug in the new issue view - which is the default view when you're new to Jira. See this answer for more detail.

To switch to the classic view:

  1. Go to your profile via the avatar icon in the bottom-left corner of the navigation bar
  2. Click it and select Settings under the Jira header
  3. Scroll down to Jira Labs and toggle the New Issue View to off

Hi Stephen, this was the screen that came up when I chose the sample project in the tutorial box prior to this. I can't go back and the screen has since been closed. Either way even in the previous screen there is nothing marked "create"

The navigation bar, is that the big blue bar on the far left-hand side of the screen?

I'm still so new I don't even know what you mean by confluence, Jira or community, we moved to Atlassian a little after MSFT bought Github, but I'm going through the tutorials I found.

I've found the screenshot for the normal screen, and it again says "click on create" to do blah and there is no button on the screen that just says 'create'.

Am I just supposed to magically know where the "create" button is or is there a "enable labels" setting that I missed?
