Upgrade Confluence 5.10.8 to 6.7

Hi guys,

do you think it's worth it to upgrade confluence from 5.10.8 to the newest version?

what are the main benefits for you?

Is it possible to connect outlook (e-mail and calendar)?

How much does it roughly cost?

Is maintenance automated or partly automated? Any tips for manual maintenance?

Are individual theme pages created for each user? (last searches, most important topics)

I'd do it to get collaborative editing alone. That is an awesome feature! You can review the release notes to get an idea of other features, as well.

Cost is free if you have current maintenance on your Confluence instance. If the maintenance has expired, you will either need to back pay for the time since it expired or buy a new license.

Upgrade is a pretty manual process.  There is an installer script that will also upgrade. You can also do it 100% manually. It's pretty well documented, but be sure to read over the upgrade notes for each version to determine if there are any interim releases that you need to upgrade to before going to the latest version. Whatever you do, always always always do a test upgrade on a development instance. It's never a good idea to assume that things will just go smoothly.

You will also need to review the Apps you have installed and make sure that all are available for the destination version you plan to upgrade to. Not all App vendors have a new version available right when a new Confluence version is released. It's also possible than an App you have is free now, but will require a license purchase on the new version of Confluence. The update check feature makes this fairly easy, but I'd double check in Marketplace manually.
