Upgrade from Confluence 6.5 --> 6.15; Images don't show up in upgraded Confluence Application

KO89 March 31, 2019

I've recently updated my Confluence server application from 6.5 to 6.15, everything appears to be working as planned except my images. None of them in the application show. I went to "attachment storage" in configurations and checked the attachments path; it was correct. I looked at the error logs and it stated:

"Getattachmentdata could not find data for attachment <name of attachment>. We’re looking at F:\Confluence\Confluence\ConfluenceConflunce Home\attachments\...."

I navigated to where the error logs stated confluence was looking and sure enough the images are there they just aren't showing in the application. I followed a guide to fix this issue [link to confluence fix] but the issue still remains. If anyone could assist it would be appreciated. Thanks

Sidenote - Attached you will see an image of my database export attachment (guide said I needed it for the python script in the link). Not sure if it helps

Hello Kehinde,

How annoying that your attachments aren't showing! Let's see what we can find out about this issue.

Would you mind running a full reindex from scratch to see if this resolves the problem?

You can find the instructions below:

Thank you for your help!

Hi! Thank you for the suggestion. It is very annoying actually thinks for noticing lol. You brought up a very good odea but unfortunately I've already attempted that. Rebuilding the index helped with updating the application (it was missing a few documents) but im still not seeing any images! =(

The only thing I can consider Is perhaps I missed a step in the python fix. Any other suggestions?

Kehinde,

Ahhh, well. It was worth trying; thank you for letting me know you had already tried that.

You can feel free to send the output from your command line if you want us to double-check your steps from the article, but it makes me think that there might be some permissions issue in Windows that is causing you not to be able to view them.

  1. The path in the error looks a bit odd - can you show us what the same path looks like in your Windows installation?
  2. Can you confirm which method you used to upgrade?
  3. How are you starting Confluence in Windows? Are you starting as a service? If so, you'll want to verify the permissions on the disk path all the way to the files themselves to match the account that the service is running as.

The common mistake that we see is that users will start Confluence with the root but the permissions will be set differently on the home directory, or even the files themselves.

Let me know how everything goes!

Regards,

Shannon

Kehinde,

We just noticed that you also raised a support ticket for this same issue, so it's best to leave the troubleshooting on the support ticket. This way we have your full logs anyway and can update this thread here with the resolution.

I would still encourage you to put the answers to my questions in the support ticket, because the engineer will still want to know that. Particularly, which guide you used to upgrade. You mentioned a database export, and those are not recommended for user in upgrading, but you mentioned it was according to a specific guide. We'd like to have a look at that to know exactly the steps you took so far to know what might be left out.

I'll be watching both the support ticket and this thread, so please let me know if you have any trouble responding on the support thread.

Regards,

Shannon

Thanks Shannon!

I indeed raised a support ticket after I actually noticed I had Atlassian support lol. As I told the support engineer, I didn't conduct a database export in regards to the upgrade. A guide was used to specifically fix the attachment issue after the upgrade occurred which included only a few columns from a table in confluence. I've attached that guide in the support ticket though.

Hope we can get this resolved and I will definitely answer the questions you asked and put them in the support ticket!

Kehinde,

Ah I understand now. Thank you for clarifying that for me.

I'll keep an eye on that ticket for the time being, thank you for all your help!
