What permissions do I need to be able to add a User to our Confluence site overall?

My director would like me to be able to add users to Confluence. Would you be able to tell me what permissions she needs to set for me to be able to do this?

Hi JP,

This depends on your Confluence version.

If you're using Server, you need to be an administrator.

If you're using Cloud, you need to be a site admin.

Thanks, Shannon!! You're always so helpful. Is there a way to see what my current permissions are? I believe we are using Cloud and she said she has me set as a Site Admin but I just want to be sure I'm not looking in the wrong spot. I don't have permission to view https://example.atlassian.net/admin/users, So I'm assuming there must be something off with my permissions.

No problem!

So in order to have access to the /admin/users section, you want to be part of the group site-admins. But you also won't be able to see what groups you're in unless you're already a part of that group.

Thus, my recommendation is to get in touch with your director and if she has access to the /admin/users page, she can add you to that group. If she doesn't then we can help you find someone from your instance that does have access, but we'd have to open a support ticket.

You'll need to be an administrator. An admin can access the Confluence Administration console and create new users.
