Why are inline attachments not found after doing a rest update content?

I have an existing confluence page with an inline attachment (a pdf). I am using the rest api update content where all I'm doing is using the original content returned and only appending a html link. The update succeeds and I see the link at the bottom of the page however the PDF is changed to an image and when clicking on the image, a message pops up saying the file is not found. I can restore the page to a previous version and the PDF is found. What am I doing wrong? Thank you! Michael

Can you show us the call you're making to REST API and the response?

Shannon, thanks for replying. It has been determined to skip the update at this time due to time constraints. When I have time I'll ask the question in the developer community.
