Why are my links not saving?

Debra Eskinazi Stockdale November 4, 2019

I am migrating some pages from an older authoring system to a new one in Confluence and when I go to replace the links in the material... I seemingly add/update the link. through editing the link.. but the edit doesn't stick.

I am having no other difficulties publishing. I can create new documentation and save images to the new confluence doc set, but the links persist in pointing to the old site regardless of my edits.

Formerly, I never had to break a link to reestablish a new one, I just changed the page the link was directed to. I'd had to think I now have to break links in order to get this to work.

Is this a known bug right now??

If something is not working for you, you might be better off creating a support ticket (while editing a page, click the (?) icon in the lower left corner and select "Feedback")

This may get more visibility with the Atlassian staff.

Hi Debra,

Thank you for reporting this.

Can you let me know if the links have any special characters or if they're particularly long? Is this in the new editor?

Regards,

Shannon

Hi Shannon, Thanks. Honestly, beyond a hyphen.. nothing that I can see. and this did work previously.

Hi Debra,

Thank you for your reply.

Just so I understand correctly, what is the older authoring system that you're migrating your pages from? Can you tell me more about how you are doing that?

In Confluence, are you using the new editing experience or the old experience? You will be able to recognize the new experience as the publish button will be in the top-right hand side.

It might also help if you are able to record the behavior for us. You can do so using a site like Screencast.com or Screencast-O-Matic.

Thank you for your help!

Regards,

Shannon

Interestingly, it looks like the problem has been fixed, but the screencast below captures the motions I was going through.

*the authoring system we were migrating from is zendesk.. the method was not pulling data or any other migration process except for a quite literal cut and paste :/  from one window into another.

*Using the new editing experience

Hi Debra,

Thank you for confirming the steps you were taking to replicate the behavior. I haven't seen anything like that before on the new editor! Was it happening with any pages, with any links, or only this one?

I wanted to create a ticket for you so we could take a look at it on our end and see what the issue might be. Unfortunately, we'll need to be able to replicate it in order to do that, so please let me know if it starts happening again.

Regards,

Shannon

Shannon, It was happening with a variety of pages and for several of our technical writers..in different locations. I will let you know if I see it occur again.

Thanks,

debra
