add attachment option in jira

I would like to add attachments to my Jira board. I am the administrator to my board but not sure were i can go to start adding files

Have a look at the project permissions and check you have "attach files".  Then go to each issue (card) and use "attach files" from the options menu.

is it possible to have an attachment not be in the ticket. I would like to add it on the tab next to the board where it shows roadmap, board, maps etc. can I add a file in that tab as a reference?
