giving an automatic code/number to each task

I like the idea that tasks can be created in any document of a space and then they are visible and sort-able in a task list (that can also be filtered).

however, when I discuss or remind about tasks outside confluence (especially when talking with a client), I need to be able to refer to a task with some sort of code that is recognized by the assignee.

Is it possible to have confluence create such a code/numbering column automatically in the task list?

Hello @RiFa

What you want is provided by Jira, project and task tracking. Thus, if your Confluence is connected with Jira application then you can just select the task in confluence, you will see a popup and then just create an Jira issue from within confluence itself. Once you do that you will have the issueKey and issue status displayed right next to the tasks. Thus, you can see easily track and share the key with other members.

Hello @Tarun Sapra, thank you for attempting an answer, but I'm looking for something to work without Jira. Of course I can create Jira issues, but then I need to divide the development issues from the project issues.

I can create a separate jira project for "project matters" (as opposed to purely development matters), but that is also a bit overkilling.

Also, in the confluence task list page, would it show the link to the jira issue or wouldn't it rather be visible wherever I'm creating the task (various pages)? Then I may as well just forget about Confluence and its tasks and directly create jira issue for any task that pops up during a meeting...

Yes, the jira issue links will be visible right next to the tasks if you have created the issues based on the content of the tasks. 

But if you want to keep track of the tasks then best is to do it in Jira, you can continue to use confluence for content management and content sharing.

Hi @Tarun Sapra, the link to jira would be visible next tot the task, yes, but not next to the task as seen in the task list, right? So, when going through the list of tasks to update their status (during a meeting), I'd have to click on each task, get to the original page where the task was created and from there click on the jira.

Let's say Confluence isn't really capable of tracking tasks that may stay open (in progress) for a while and updated regularly. We'll deal with that. Thanks!

Hello @Riccardo Fanciulli

The easy way to do it without going into Jira or creating Jira issues is to use "Status macro" next to tasks for tracking the status of tasks. This way you don't have to create jira tickets or anything like that, you can just create tasks and use the status macro to track the status of the tasks.
