how do I turn the child page into the main confluence wiki page - and elimiate the current main page?

In confluce admin on the General Configuration page you can set up the space that has the site homepage. Then with in space admin for the space that is set as home on the Space Details page there is a box that says "Home page". You can set the page in that space that will be the home.
