Anyone know how to stop the auto follow?

This seems to be the default for all my users, so when anyone does anything, the world and his wife get notified! It's driving everyone mad!

Hello,

you can click on your profile (photo or avatar on the top right - navigation tab)

  • Then select settings/emails
  • click on edit
  • and deselect the items.

Link to documentation : https://support.atlassian.com/confluence-cloud/docs/subscribe-to-email-notifications/

Thanks for this Sophie. I've tried those, but they seem to be either, all or nothing. If the user unsubscribes from emails, they get nothing. What they want to do is not get notified about everything anyone ever does in every space, but to subscribe to the things they care about. So, for example we have requirements discussions going on with loads of comments. Only the users than are interested should be notified, but it seems everyone is included and they have to unsubscribe from each page.

I can't make my users go to hundreds of pages and unsubscribe from each. What I would have expected to find something like a reset option. i.e. unsubscribe from everything now and I'll watch the pages/spaces that I care about going forward.

Hello Tim,

maybe ask your users to unwatch the entire space  (home page of the spage) and ask you user to publish without notifying other users if is not necessary as a best practice.

Hope this last comment helps you.

Hi Sophie,

Thanks for following up. It sounds like there is no overall setting that would allow users to not be auto subscribed but still allow them to subscribe to what they want. It sounds like it works the other way, i.e. everyone is subscribed and they have to unsubscribe from what they don't want.

From our point of view, it's not really practical to do that. We're not in control of the users as the entire group can join and contribute. What works for us is to not auto subscribe anyone to anything until they contribute to or comment on a page. I have some users that are getting hundreds of emails a day with contributions on pages in spaces they don't care about. I've switched off the emails altogether for now.
