why has tasklist macro been removed?

This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Add, Assign, and View Tasks

I have a customer who wants a task list with indications of progress. Documentation on the Tasklist macro seemed to fit the bill possibly, but I can't find this macro in the macro browser. We are on 5.10.2. All I can find is Task Report, which does not have all the functionality required.

Hi Kate,

According to the note at the bottom of this page: "The wiki markup based Tasklist Macro has been removed from the macro browser. If you have a Tasklist macro on a page it will continue to work, but you will be unable to add new Tasklists using this macro."

Digging a little deeper, this happened in the Confluence e5.5-OD-22 release, but there's no explanation of why they removed it, just the announcement that they did.

You can probably find a suitable replacement in the Atlassian Marketplace.

Thanks Rob.

Frustrating because Tasklist was free as part of normal Confluence, and it had some good features, which we'd probably need to pay for in a plugin!

Atlassian is doing it's best to remove free and great working functions and 'offer' paid addons. It's a shame.

For what it is worth, the add-on continues to work. So if you have a page with the macro, it is easily copied. If you have the source editor add-on enabled, you can also paste this in to get the task list macro added to a page:

<ac:structured-macro ac:macro-id="71e737c8-cd51-4a53-b49b-67a94425b59a" ac:name="tasklist" ac:schema-version="1">
<ac:parameter ac:name="title">Task List Title</ac:parameter>
<ac:parameter ac:name="enableLocking">true</ac:parameter>
<ac:plain-text-body><![CDATA[||Completed||Priority||Locked||CreatedDate||CompletedDate||Assignee||Name||
|F|M|F|| ||Task list item|]]></ac:plain-text-body>
</ac:structured-macro>

This is not guaranteed to work into the future. As @barnesy previously stated, it was the victim of changes made to how tasks work in Confluence. These macros are still nice, but they don't plug into the system-wide notification system which is a big part of the update in 5.5.

@Kate Hanna I cannot find the task list macro on my Cloud test instance but if you are still on Confluence server (5.10.x or above) you may find it on the insert menu:

I am not sure why it doesn't appear when you type a curly bracket - I have a feeling it is by design, though.Screen Shot 2017-12-07 at 1.32.55 PM.png

Thanks,

Ann

I found how to insert a task in Cloud - I just type [] :

Thanks @AnnWorley. I use that task list regularly. What I was looking for was something like this:

Task List macro

I use server instance, about 6.3 I think, and when I insert a task list macro, I just get a checkbox list like this:

task list.PNG

Whereas the link above describes something different:

task list macro.PNG

I use task report to report on tasks, but even that does not give the experience above.

Is this no longer available?

Hi @Kate Hanna, the task list maro was removed since 5.5 when we did an overhaul to how tasks work in Confluence. The link you provided is to the 5.4 docs. See Confluence 5.5 release notes and the related upgrade notes for further details.

Thanks. I'm looking into the Task Report.
