I'm running JIRA and Confluence on the same server. Both show up in the task manager as Tomcat7.exe. I'm planning to write a monitoring script to restart the appropriate services if the tasks crash.
I found references to the exe in service.bat. Is this all I have to change? Is this advisable?
Basically, this question is about tomcat administration. It is perfectly fine to change the name of the service tomcat is running with. In order to change the name and many other options, you can simply follow the general tomcat administration guidelines:
https://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-7.0-doc/windows-service-howto.html
Also the standard confluence documentation recommends another naming, e.g. Confluence:
