Saving a board layout and importing jira issues

Eleni Georgiou March 10, 2025

I often need to create a board that has some jira issues (that have been filtered out) and that have only 2 fields (issue title and description). I want the view to be a board. The board has 4 tags. All jira issue go to the first collumn that is grey with title "no tag". there are 3 more columns with specific naming and colours. Everytime that I create a database, I have to set up the other columns. Can I save the layout as a preset, so that after I have selected the relevant issues I want, only the fields I want are shown and the board is set with the correct tag colors and names?

Hi @Eleni Georgiou

Jira's native functionality doesn't support saving customized board layouts as reusable templates.

  • Consider exploring options by duplicate existing boards or create page templates in Confluence to streamline your workflow.
  • Also third-party apps like Templating.app offer features to create Jira board templates, which may be worth exploring.

Thank you very much and have a great one!

Hello  Humashankar, thank you for your reply.

1. Duplicating existing boards does not work.

If I try and import new tasks issues from jira, the view is reset to a simple table view.

2. I tried the "Copy structure" option. Again, if I click on import and after selecting the issues I want, the view is reset to a simple table view.

I would rather not use 3rd party apps.

Kind regards

Thanks @Eleni Georgiou for the insight with your current stance.

Manually importing issues into Confluence and reconfiguring the board each time can be a tedious task.

Despite, by leveraging Jira's saved filters, you can simplify the process.

  • To get started - create a saved filter in Jira that pulls only the issues you need for your board, filtering by project, issue type, status, or other relevant criteria.
  • Then, in Confluence, insert the "Jira Issues" macro into your page or database, referencing the saved filter from Jira to display only the pre-filtered issues.
  • This approach ensures consistency, dynamic updates, and time-saving benefits, as new issues meeting the filter criteria are automatically added to Confluence.

Once you've inserted the filtered issues, you can customize your board layout as needed, reducing unnecessary work and ensuring only relevant issues are displayed.
