Sort column in table by date in Confluence Wiki page

laura.krafka March 11, 2020

I have a confluence page with running commitments of tasks/stories between the business and our dev team and have a column that is commitment date. I am using the date field in the cells (//) but need to know how to sort the column by the field. Clicking on the arrow within the heading is not putting it completely into date order. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Hi @laura.krafka

You should be able to sort the table with what you are doing now - using date field in table cells in (//) format. You mentioned clicking on the arrow within the heading is not putting it completely into date order. Do you mean you see the table sorted to some extent? Can you look into which columns specifically are not following the sort?

Here are other possibilities for it to work as expected:

  • Try using the Insert date option from the Insert more content menu from the toolbar into your table cells and then try sorting.
  • You can also use apps like Advanced Tables for Confluence to sort table by a specific column automatically.

I am assuming by sorting you meant after the publishing the page. If you meant sorting the table while editing, it is not possible natively in Confluence. Here is the relevant ticket.

Thanks

Sireesha
