Is there anybody out there who can advice how to better structure our Confluence database so that we can more easily provide access for different external customers?

Hi @Herbert Meschede perhaps you can consider establishing "guest space" for each external customers, check out: https://community.atlassian.com/t5/Confluence-articles/Collaborate-with-anyone-anywhere-with-Confluence-guests-GA/ba-p/2396148
