TOC Zone background color setting

Hello,

Why doesn't the TOC Zone or TOC macro have a customizable background to help clearly distinguish the table of contents from the page content? 

There is a CSS styling field, but I can't find adequate documentation on how to use it.  Can someone provide me pointers to documentation that is not outdated.

With Confluence on premise, you could indeed activate CSS for spaces, but it looks like it's not possible on Cloud: https://support.atlassian.com/migration/docs/differences-administering-confluence-data-center-and-cloud/#Layouts-and-CSS
