Table Drop Down Menu is not available?

The drop down menu for editing tables in Confluence is not visible in edit mode of a page - even if I click into a table field. This happens only, if there is some other content in the same Confluence page. In empty pages the table menu is available. Any ideas?

We are using Confluence 5.1.3

I found out, that the ad hoc workflows plugin causes the problem.
