Using in-house Confluence v5.8.4 for company docs - getting complaints that Table of Contents is cut off on some pages - have sections with columns and using px values to determine the size of the column. Is this a known issue in some browsers?
Should I change all my column sizes to % instead of px values?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Very Much
Hello MaryAnn,
If you are using a CSS style on your pages which will define the width of each column in absolute pixel value than your Table of Content might be cut off from the side. The same will happen with Fixed width option for the table and resize the columns manually.
What happens when you remove the width constraint? Is it then fixed?
Also, is this happening on all or just some desktop browsers?
Thank you,
Adam
Hi Adam,
Thank You for your response. Unfortunately, I do not see the problem on my Windows 7 laptop in IE 11, Chrome or FF but it was reported to me that it occurred in the FF browser and I actually saw it happen myself during a remote session with a customer - I think that was in Edge. I changed the Pixel values to percents on the pages that were reported to me as showing the problem. If it happens again, I will remove the values and see if that affects anything.
Another side of this is ALL my doc pages have absolute pixel values for the columns in sections at the top of the page. I have not encountered any issues with the TOC being cut off until now (5 years later). Would you suggest that I go through and change the values on my pages to percents or remove them completely? Ugh - not something I am looking forward to doing but am willing to do so if you think it is necessary.
Let me know when you can. I appreciate your time.
Thanks again.

Hello Adam,
I just saw a cut off TOC on one of my doc pages in the IE11 browser - I removed the width constraints as you suggested and it seemed to help - do you suggest that I go through and remove the restriction on all my pages?
Thanks for your time.
