I am using a task report to track open items. For some open items, I want to provide the final disposition before I check the box as complete.

Example of my task report (description lines):

John: Will get final Budget for the project

Mark: Follow-up with vendor on t-shirt order delivery date

Jane: Align with legal on trade marking by next week

When created:

John's task was created on 3/11/2025

Mark's task was created on 4/20/2025

Jane's task was crated on 2/11/2025

My Ask:

Before I check the box that John's task is complete, I would like to update the line with the comment "Budget was approved for $100,000 USD."

Currently, I have to do a ctrl+F or a search. Is there a way to add a link to the task report that will take me to the specific location (source) where this description was first entered?

Hi David,

Welcome to Atlassian community!

To address your need for updating task descriptions in Confluence Cloud before marking them as complete, you can use the Task Report macro and link directly to the specific task locations.

Using the Task Report Macro

  1. Insert the Task Report Macro:

    • When editing a Confluence page, select the Task Report macro from the toolbar or type /task report to bring up the macro.
    • Configure the macro to filter tasks by space, page, user, label, created date, etc. This will help you display a list of tasks on a page .
  2. Linking to Specific Task Locations:

    • To link directly to the specific location where the task description was first entered, you can use the anchor link feature in Confluence.
    • Hover to the right of the heading or section where the task is described until the link icon appears. Select the link icon to copy the URL of the heading link.
    • Use this URL to create a link in your task report, allowing you to navigate directly to the original task description.

Example Scenario

For your specific example, you can update the task report with comments and links as follows:

  • John's Task:
    • Original Description: "Will get final Budget for the project"
    • Update: "Budget was approved for $100,000 USD."
    • Link: Add a link to the original task location using the copied URL from the anchor link.
