What are the server requirements for Confluence 6.1?

Deleted user February 25, 2018

Good day!

I'm interested about my server requirements, I've seen the documentation regarding server requirements, ( https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/server-hardware-requirements-guide-30736403.html ) but I am wondering on how can I be sure that my server is good enough?

The reason I am asking is that I am receiving frequent issues where my site is not responsive or takes a while to load. The issue I believe is on server side because I test other sites for while my Confluence site takes a while to load and the other sites load faster.

Below are some details that may shed some light into my issue.

  1. OS - Windows Server 2012 R2 6.3
  2. OS Architecture - amd64
  3. Application Server - Apache Tomcat/8.0.41
  4. Servlet Version - 3.1
  5. Java Version -1.8.0_112
  6. Allocated for Java Heap - 4096 MB
    • Used - 2087  MB
    • Unused - 2087  MB
  7. Number of CPU's - 2
  8. HDD Drives
  9. Virtual Server
  10. Users
    • User base - 500
    • Peak User Count - 50
  11. Spaces - 16
  12. Plugins - 249

Thanks!

Hi Jarvin,

I have some thoughts that might help you narrow this issue down.

With the information available, it's a little hard to definitively say whether your hardware is sufficient for your instance. Everyone's usage of Confluence is different, so their hardware needs are different. Also be aware the page you linked to is for minimum hardware requirements. If you need faster performance, you might need to add some more resource.

Here are some things to check into to get you started

  • During periods of slowness, check Resource Monitor in your Windows environment to see if your server is at 100% usage. In particular check the CPU, Memory and Disk values.
  • If you have other software running on the server (for instance your database), check to make sure they're not taking the resources Confluence needs.
  • It appears you might be running your server as a VM. It's also worth checking to ensure that other VMs aren't using all of the available resource on your host server.

Another give away that you're running in to a resource issue is if the slow responses only happy at particular times of the day. Try using Confluence at a time when few people will be online and see if the experience is faster.

Hopefully this can get you started in working out your issue :)

Thanks,
James

Hi James,

Thanks for your answer, I will look into the performance during the peak times and when there are less users.

Regads,

Jarvin
