This question is in reference to Atlassian Documentation: Confluence Home and other important directories
There is a recovery directory containig files like upgradeRecoveryFile-5791-5982-after.xml.gz and upgradeRecoveryFile-5791-5982-before.xml.gz. Can I delete this files and directory?
Hi Frithjof,
By default, Confluence creates an upgrade recovery file before and after an upgrade. The operation can take long time on large databases and can be safely turned off if there is a process to back up database and verify the backup before performing an upgrade. Setting this property to false will disable upgrade recovery file creation.
These files are essentially partial database dumps, and they can be useful in cases where an upgrade task has failed and backups have not been taken. Basically, it depends on your needs, it will not affect your Confluence at all, as it is just a "backup".
Hi Frithjof,
That's correct. This folder can be safely removed since it's just a backup. Note that we recommend to use an external backup method such as taking database backups and backing up the important folders such as the installation and data folders as stated here.
Cheers,
Rodrigo
