Do you mean you would like it to default to "Page" template? The How-to article template option exists within the Create prompt- just another click away.

I would like to have a different page template open when I click create instead of having to click the 3 dots. Clicking Create automagically creates a new blank page from a blank template

Got it- yeah, that would be nice and I don't know of a way to do that (globally). Can you log it as a suggestion in the Atlassian JIRA?

For Knowledge Bases, I put a "Create from template" macro on the How-to articles page, so that users can go directly into creating a How-to article. Same with Troubleshooting articles. But the create button is embedded in the page itself.
