Why can I not delete some spaces that I created?

I am a new user to Confluence and am working on a project. I have created several spaces and was able to delete some but others will not delete. I can select delete and get the screen that says Delete Space but it just freezes. I wait a few minutes but it never changes. If I try to delete it again, I get an error that No  task is progress. 

How can I delete these spaces?

Welcome to the community!

Did you search and check again for the space that you have deleted?  Is it still coming up in the results?

Sometimes, there will be deadlocks in the processes if a space is deleted (particularly large spaces) and takes long time to complete the process.
