checkbox character or workaround in Confluence 4.0?

Short of placing an image, is there some way to get an empty checkbox dingbat in Confluence 4.0? I don't see anything like that in the Insert > Symbol dialog.

I could use a one-cell table but the checkboxes are already in a table and that results in way too much white space.

I found a sort of kludgy workaround, I can just copy a checkbox in another application and paste it. ☐
