how do you grant access to a large group of users?

Hello - we recently created a space within Confluence site and we are looking to grant access to a specific set of users; however it is over 1000 employees.   Is there a way to select a group of users within the larger organization groups by their department?  Or is it possible to import user names rather than select them 1 by 1?

Hi Anita, welcome to the community!

The answer will depend on which user groups exists in your confluence instance. 
Most larger instances will have groups that contains specific departments such as HR, Marketing, Operations, etc. 
If these groups exist in your confluence instance you'll most likely be able to grant access for specific departments by using them.

Your Confluence admins should be able to tell you more about which user groups exists, and who's in them. 

(if you want to grant access to everyone who has accounts on the Confluence instance, this is usually the group called "confluence-users")

We use Crowd to manage our groups. We onboard users into team groups when they get hired then sync those groups to Jira/Confluence. 

I can't be much help beyond pointing you in that direction. I don't know much of the technical details as I didn't set it up nor do I currently manage it. I just know that's where our groups come from and I have to talk to a Crowd Admin when a group didn't get updated correctly for whatever reason.
