• What happens when you attempt to add the license? Are there any specific error messages? (How the license fails and what error shows can help indicate what the root cause is)
• What version of Confluence are you using? (Older versions of Confluence (<3.5) use a different license format, and will not accept current licenses)
• Does the license show as current and valid when you view it at https://my.atlassian.com?

But, if I may ask, where did you get the license from and how recent was your purchase?
