number of comments per page?

If I were to use a blog page as a messaging channel, would I run into a limit on the number of comments?

I assume Confluence does not have a limit however there can be performance impact on extremely large pages (like a release log page in my environment that has 1297 versions and pages of table rows). I don't foresee your blog post going this extreme :)
