problem during migration

Alex P April 23, 2018

Hi,

actually I'm trying to migrate my confluence server (6.8.1) from debian 8 to debian 9 (confluence 6.8.1).
The installation process and configuration works fine so far. Now i have to migrate the database from mysql to mysql, but this is actually not working.
When restoring the database over genercal configuration > backup and restore > i recive the following error at 90%

Could not read fields for table AO_187CCC_SIDEBAR_LINK

This problem is reproducable. Nevermind if I use a backup from internal scheduler or if I create a on demand backup.
I can't find any related article which helps me with me problem. So what next now?

Hi,

actually I was able to move the data (at least it looks like..), but the spaces bar and the spaces button does not work anymore. I've tried to find article about this problem, which not solve the problem.
Rebuilding the index not help. Removing the cache and afterwards rebuild the index not help.
Rebuild the ancestor table and afterwards clear cache and rebuild the index not help to.
What next?

Hi,

I'm just not migrating the database. It's the whole confluence application.
Just dumping and importing the MySQL database from old server to new server did not work.
There occur no errors or something like that while dumping and re-importing, but actually the spaces are not existing, not content is visible, missing users and so on...

Of course Confluence was restartet after re-importing the database.

Hi,

so the migration is 2 steps:

  • Moving the files: confluence home and confluence binaries, you can follow this guide
  • Moving databases: you'll need to update some configurations files, you can follow this guide

If you read both pages, you'll see that Atlassian does not recommend using xml backup files to restore Confluence. So you will not only need to export and import the MySQL database but also configure properly the new database details.

Let me know if you have any issues,

Hello,

if you're migrating the database why don't you just take a dump from the old MySQL instance and import it into the new one ? That should work fine and will be faster than using the xml backups.

Let me know if you need more details,
