What Confluence tools are available for reporting on e.g. number of articles on a certain topic?

Hi,

Reporting plugin is available in atlassian marketplace which provides the ability for powerful and flexible reporting on data from Confluence.

You can generate a report as a tabular format.

Also you can create a user macro to display the number of articles in a page.
