Retention rules - attachments deleted

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone can shed some light on this!

• I'm wanting to put retention rules in place but decided to do this on our test environment first.
• My understanding is that only versions of pages and attachments would be deleted, not the page or attachment itself.
• However, I recorded 62,386 attachments before the retention rules, and then 62,349 after - I had not expected this to change. Does anyone know why a few have been deleted?

The only exception I can think of, is that the attachment was only on a version of a page that has now been deleted because of the rules!

Any input much appreciated! I know it's not a huge number of attachments that have went missing but want to be confident before putting them in place in our live environment.

@Khloe Salmon it depends on the retention rule you setup.  Attachments can have versions.  If you did not protect those versions, the default rule, then they will be deleted.

I did put a retention rule on attachments, delete versions older than 3 years.

However, as I understand it, this should not have reduced the total number of attachments, as it would only delete versions, and not if it was the only version?

Very puzzled!
