Is there a way to set the page tree as default in sidebar when creating a new space on global theme? Our users prefer the page tree to the child pages view!
As of Confluence 5.6 that is now the default behavior. Prior to 5.6 there is not a way to default it.
A workaround prior to 5.6 would be to create a space that serves as a template space. The use the copy space add on to create new spaced based on it. You could set up the sidebar in the template space and then all of the spaces created off the template should show the sidebar the same way. https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.atlassian.confluence.plugin.copyspace

Hi Davin, I am looking for exactly the same functionality but the workaround doesn't work for me. It copies the template space with page tree and the new one is still with child pages. I was trying to find a programatic solution but no chance. Am I missing something? Since the sidebar can be different from space to space, I don't suppose it is a question of modifying the theme (manually). It has to store the config information for each space somewhere. Do you have any ideas?

Good to hear that it will be default setting for Confluence 5.6. But is there really no way to set it as default for confluence 5.5.6?

Like I said. There is no way to default it prior to 5.6.
