Space is deleted, but still shows up on drop-down menu

Two coworkers accidentally created "Spaces" instead of Pages. One of the Spaces has since been deleted by them; however, on the top navigation bar where there exists the Spaces drop-down options, the Space (that has been deleted) still appears in the drop-down box. 

In other words, how do you make a deleted Space completely disappear?
