Hi,
I'm having some trouble with creating confluence spaces using a custom template.
The aim of this is to have a standard space template which can be duplicated for new projects.
* I can see and do this for pages, but not for entire spaces.
I've reached a point where I am exporting spaces and attempting reimport them, as xml, with changes to key values in the xml files but am being blocked by unspecified errors when importing.
Before I journey further down this rabbit hole, is there a simple way of duplicating entire confluence spaces?
Many thanks
Hello Andrew,
Thank you for contacting us about this.
What it sounds like you want to do is to copy a space but change the space name and key, is that correct? If so, I would recommend reviewing this article for help:
The 2nd part of the article will let you know exactly what you need to change in the XML file in order to be able to reimport it.
If you prefer, there are also a few 3rd party add-ons in Marketplace that could help you with this in Cloud.
Let me know if you have any trouble with that.
Regards,
Shannon
Thanks Shannon - I've just skimmed the article and it looks useful.
Hopefully it'll be plain sailing from here, but I'll reach out if I get stuck!

I've just been reading up on some of the older documentation on creating a space blueprint for Confluence Cloud and that went down a different rabbit hole. The one link I found, actually points to the Server Dev page for Confluence.
Is creating a space and copying it the only way to accomplish this? It does ultimately achieve the goal, but it seems odd that we can't create a space template, which to me would be ideal. Could you confirm?

Hello Shanta,
Thank you for contacting us on this.
Creating a Blueprint does require programming knowledge, which is why you ended up on a dev page for Confluence. Below is the Cloud version of the page I believe you were looking for:
Iif you need to copy the structure of a Space, then you do need to follow the instructions from the article I linked above, or use a 3rd party add-on.
Let me know if you have any questions about that.

Shannon

Thanks Shannon! I should have clarified, the link to which I was referencing was pointing to a Server solution, not a cloud one in my previous answer. I couldn't locate a Cloud solution, but I'll take a look at that one. If I find the instance of which I was speaking, I'll post it here, because I think it was redirecting incorrectly.
I appreciate the link you provided also, but I'm looking on how to create an entire space template, not just a set of pages. I have since created a space template and installed a 3rd Party application to test out the copy functionality. I'll let you know how that turns out.

Hi Shanta,
It was clear from your response that you had found the Server solution but not the Cloud one as you required. The link I shared should be the Cloud version you are looking for. Please do share the article you found if so, and I can submit for it to be corrected.
A Blueprint is indeed what you would require if you need to create a space template or an add-on which provides additional Blueprints, as you have found. This is the only way to create a space template.
If you have any trouble with that add-on, be advised that we have a Marketplace Apps collection. You can raise any questions about 3rd party add-ons there.
Take care!

Shannon
