I read through this help page on how to insert smart buttons into templates, however, the smart button doesn't save to the template itself, only the page. https://support.atlassian.com/cloud-automation/docs/smart-buttons-for-automation-in-confluence/
i.e. a user has to create a new page, insert template, then configure the smart button each time (based on the instructions on this page). Surely that isn't right?
Any help? I essentially want to create a template with a set smart button, so whenever someone uses the template the smart button is already configured to the correct automation.

According to the page you provided a link to, this is exactly how this feature works, which means that you cannot create a page from a template where the smart button is already configured.
Using smart buttons in page templates
You can add a smart button to a template, but it can only be configured after the template has been applied to a page.
Yep I'm aware of that.
My question was asking is it possible to create a template with a smart button that doesn't need to be configured after someone creates a page using a template - if not, it defeats the purpose of having a 'template' for anyone to use to create a page, but then having to configure a button every time the template is used (and assuming everyone knows that they need to do this).

Hi @Lauren Santarossa -- Welcome to the Atlassian Community!
Here is the suggestion to add the ability to configure Smart Buttons in a template page: https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-80888
I believe the only workaround is to copy a page which has the button configured and then make other changes to the page...although that seems a bit messy.
Kind regards,
Bill
