Trying to insert Supplementary Plane characters and getting invalid XML character error

Mike Buchanan

I am trying to insert some characters which are supplementary plane characters. For example, the speech bubble, which is codepoint 1F4AC

When I try to insert it, I get an Error Validating Source error.  Character reference .. is an invalid xml character.

This seems to happen with any codepoint higher than FFFF.

Is there a know work-around to this or should I submit this as a bug or feature request?

Hi Mike,

it sounds like you are running into the issue reported here: Update Confluence to support Emoji characters.

One of the private comments on the issue reports this error similar to what you posted, but a different character:

Illegal character entity: expansion character (code 0xd83d) not a valid XML character
 at [row,col {unknown-source}]: [1,468]

Since you mentioned submitting a bug report, I imagine you are familiar with our Bug Fixing Policy but I am linking it in case you have questions, and for anyone else in the Community who sees the post.

Thanks,

Ann
