Update 6.15.3 to 7 fails with "Table 'confluence.EVENTS' doesn't exist"

Thomas Tausend September 22, 2021

After an Update from Confluence 6.15.3 I got an "Update complete - please enter Licence-Key" (what I did) and then "restart confluence" (what I also did). After a reboot of the machine Confluence starts with

DescriptionTimeLevelException
Upgrade failed. Please consult the system logs for details. You will need to fix these problems, restore your database and confluence home directory to the pre upgrade state. Then retry the upgrade. Upgrade error message: Upgrade task com.atlassian.confluence.upgrade.upgradetask.SynchronyEvictionEventsPostSchemaUpgradeTask@1285568f failed during the SCHEMA_UPGRADE phase due to: StatementCallback; bad SQL grammar [create unique index e_h_r_idx on `EVENTS` (`history`, `rev`)]; nested exception is com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLSyntaxErrorException: Table 'confluence.EVENTS' doesn't exist

Post-Upgrade recovery file generation failed.
Please refer to https://confluence.atlassian.com/x/ropKGQ for possible solution.

For the recovery-file-generation-problem I found a solution online - but the missing table drives me mad.
I already recovered the content of the Confluence-Directory, restored the (mysql) Database and startet the update again - but got the same result.
Any ideas how to deal with that Problem?
Best regards
Thomas
