Upgrade from 5.3 to 7.0 - can we just jump to it?

We are currently running Confluence version 5.3 on CentOS6. We will be upgrading in the near future (maybe January) to CentOS7 and want to upgrade Confluence to the latest and greatest (7.0 I believe).

The question is: Can we stand-up a new machine with CentOS7, install the latest Confluence, and then import all our data from the 5.3 current installation?

Or do we (not the desired option) have to upgrade piecemeal to various enterprise releases on the way from 5.3 to 7.0?

Hi @Robert Humbert-Hale 

You can't directly copy the data from 5.3 into the latest version.

1. Upgrade the Confluence from 5.3 to 7.x on centOS6

2. Then Take the database back up of Confluence instance(7.x), home directory from centOS6 and copy it into the new server centOS7.

3. In centOS7, Install the plain Confluence v7.x and create empty database ex: confluence-data and Restore the database back up into the confluence-data.
