View permission in Confluence

Tatiana Marti July 12, 2023

Hello,

Our users have sent us a request that we don't know how to handle (and we don't know if it's possible).
They have a space with a public part and a private part. In the private part, they have several sub-parts, including one in which they write documents that will eventually be public. They would like to be able at the time of the finalization, to allow a group of users, to access the page in reading (even in writing) to validate it.

In this capture the blue part is public, the red part is private, and they want for the yellow part a private part but with an exception.

Thanks for your help

Tania

Hi @Tatiana Marti ,

Unfortunately, based on the inheritance relationship of page access permissions, this is not possible.

The easiest way is to move Subject 1~3 to the subpage of Part 1 or 2, and reset the access restrictions according to your needs.

Confluence has three layers of permissions: system, space, and page.

For example:

1. System authority is the door to the home;

2. The space authority is the door of the bedroom;

3. Page authority is a locked drawer in the bedroom;

If you want to get the files in the drawer, then you must have the house door + bedroom door key;

If you need to access the pages of a certain space, you must have the View permission of the system and space.

Confluence is a platform for sharing, collaborating, and breaking down barriers.

In terms of permissions, you can only choose to prohibit viewing of special pages.

If you need to let users see a specific page:

1. Give the user system and space access rights;

2. Set restrictions on other pages in the space;

Remember that Page View permissions are inherited, and all parent page restrictions cascade to child pages and are irreversible.

If you think this is troublesome, you are right.

As mentioned above, sharing and collaboration are the value brought by this tool. If you really only allow users to visit a specific page and choose to create a separate storage space, it may is a better choice.
