Want to upgrade Confluence from Version 8.5.20 to Version 9.2.3 for Long term support on Redhat 8

Martin Neal April 21, 2025

I would like to upgrade Confluence from Version 8.5.20 to Version 9.2.3 for long term support on Redhat Version 8

Want to know if there are any gotchas to be aware of.

Would also be upgrading Jira from Version 9.12.16 to 10.3.5 for LTS

Hey Martin,

Upgrading Confluence to 9.2.3 (LTS) and Jira to 10.3.5 (LTS) on RHEL 8 is a solid move for long-term support. Here are a few key things to watch out for:

Test First! – Always run the upgrade in a staging environment first, especially since you're jumping a few versions.

Plugin Risks – Some older plugins might not work in the new versions—check compatibility before upgrading.

Database & Java – Make sure your DB is supported (e.g., PostgreSQL 13+) and that you’re on Java 11 (required for Confluence 9.x).

Reindexing – Both Confluence and Jira will likely need a full reindex post-upgrade, which can take time on large instances.

Backup Everything – Seriously, don’t skip this step.

Hi @Martin Neal ,

You can directly upgrade from 8.5 to 9.2. Always go with latest available version. At present, it is 9.2.3.

Also as described by @AMZ Cabs Nagpur , here are some official links you can follow

  1.  Confluence 9.2 upgrade notes
  2. Supported platform
